CFO

Chief Financial Officer
Eco Service Canada – Vancouver, BC
Compensation to be negotiated.

Eco Service Canada is looking for a CFO to partner with the founders & team in our mission to transition the auto industry to the new mobility world, and add financial maturity to our leadership team.  We are looking for someone who understands how to shape a marketplace, drive decision making, all while balancing driving incredible growth and maintaining strong business fundamentals. As the CFO you’ll join our team to build our finance organization from the ground up.

You:

  • Love and know how to model marketplace businesses
  • Have a deep knowledge of how marketplaces function
  • Understand marketplace liquidity dynamics, and the challenges of balancing supply & demand
  • Know how to measure marketplace KPIs & metrics, such as churn, retention, LTV, unit economics, etc.
  • Love working with conversion funnels, and understand how to leverage this data to build better financial models
  • Have no problem rolling your sleeves up and making operational decisions
  • Have sold potential investors on why working with your company is an incredible opportunity, & handled investor diligence processes
  • Can help your CEO work effectively in conjunction with the board of directors and other senior staff
  • Bonus: have experience with offline businesses operations, operationally heavy businesses, and/or on-demand products
  • Bonus: have experience raising for $100 million in valuation within 3 years of joining a tech start-up
  • Have previous experience operating international businesses, including managing international finance and regulations
  • Have previous experience managing financial managers, talent & human resources teams

At Eco Service Canada, you will work on:

  • Business & finance strategy
    • Understand the key levers of our marketplace
    • Develop, establish and maintain operational hiring plans with a strategic HR lens
    • Advise the CEO and executive team on areas of strategic investment within the company
    • Advise the CEO and executive team on acquisitions and joint ventures
    • Make recommendations regarding the company’s mission and strategic direction
  • FP&A
    • Create and maintain our business models and projections (supply & demand forecasting, etc.)
    • Help our leaders structure and maintain compensation schemes
    • Analyze business functions against the company’s business plan and present data to support them in improving their areas of the business
  • Accounting & controls
    • Build and oversee our multi-person finance team
    • Manage our in-house or out-of-house bookkeepers, controller(s), financial manager(s) & accountants
    • Manage the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and financial reports
    • Maintain the company’s day to day finance and accounting operations and run a tight ship (keep us frugal!)
  • Operations
    • Manage HR & talent acquisition functions
    • Manage legal & HR compliance functions
  • KPI & business metrics
    • Work closely with the BI team to empower the entire organization with KPIs, metrics and other data needed to take the right decisions
    • Help the team make predictive forecasts
  • Board & investor relations
    • Support CEO throughout fundraising processes
    • Build credibility, interface & sell potential investors
    • Represent the company in negotiations
    • Reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors regarding the management of existing investors

Requirements: You have:

  • Previous work experience at a marketplace company that has scaled from inception to maturity (seed round, Series A funding round), or previous work experience at a large marketplace company (eBay, Amazon, Uber, AirBnB, etc.)
  • A minimum 3-5 years of international work experience in at least one tech startup company(500 employees or fewer)
  • Proven ability to successfully grow the value of a startup company
  • Demonstrated international experience in regulatory and finance sectors
  • A minimum 8-10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience at a senior management or executive level
  • An undergraduate business degree with anAccounting or Finance specialization (MBA would be an asset)
  • Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of international clients
  • Bonus: Investment banking, private equity and/or consulting (Mckinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.) or tax-planning experience

Bonus: You hold a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CPA or equivalent preferred)
